3 Non Food Ways to Lose WeightFeb 07, 2022
Clients sometimes ask me how to lose weight without changing their diet. I’m never sure how to answer that because your diet, and by diet I just mean your food intake, is generally what got you into trouble in the first place. But, if you eat relatively healthy food there are a number of non food related actions that will help overall in your weight loss process. Maybe that’s what those folks want. Maybe not, but I’m sharing them with you anyway.
- Every time the sun is shining, go outside and walk. You don’t have to run or even walk fast. Just go get that vitamin D. Lot’s of us are vitamin D deficient from a multitude of reasons. We live in North America, we wear sunscreen, we are indoors mostly, we don’t take our supplements and because vitamin D is fat soluble we have a volume issue. You of course can take a vitamin D supplement but it’s not the same. You need the sun and the outdoor air too. And if you stop and pet your dog along the way you have the extra benefit of tamping down your cortisol.
- Drink enough water to make your urine clear. You can’t be dehydrated if you drink enough water. If you are well hydrated your body doesn’t have to make you think your are hungry just to get some water by eating food.
- Do you know the old saying “early to bed and early to rise makes a (wo)man healthy, wealthy and wise”? There’s some truth in that proverb. Get to bed and get at least 8 hours of sleep and when you awaken get some sun to help your circadian rhythm. Sleeping lowers your hunger hormone, insulin and cortisol. All three of those chemicals stand in the way of weight loss. Get that rest.
I want you to give it a try over the next month and see what happens. Keep doing what you are doing as far as nutrition goes but make sure that every day you are hydrated and have slept more than 7.5 hours at night. If it’s sunny, I want you out walking. At the end of February see if you notice a difference. Since I just got back from Vegas, I’ll bet you five dollars you do. Let me know if you want to take that bet because I want to make sure and collect.
